Finnabair Inspired Gift Tags

Hi Everyone,

I am here today share with you a couple of Finnabair inspired tags. I thoroughly enjoyed making these tags, I find craft such a therapeutic experience, I really go into my zone (it is almost meditative!!). I took my time choosing my adornments and gluing them into place, such fun. I have used Flying Unicorn Adornments for these tags as well some watch part chippies from Leaky Shed Studio. We all know I love myself some Lumiere paints and these paints are what has created the amazing color you can see here.

One Day Challenge - Flying Unicorn Forum

Flying Unicorn is having a full weekend online crop, I invite you all to join in and get involved, starting with my challenge!!!

Alright who is ready to make something technique driven? Your challenge should you choose to accept, it is all rather simple, here is the criteria.

I would like to see you do all of the following -

1) Produce a card
2) Include stamping
3) Include embossing (if you do no have equipment to emboss I will let you off on this step)
4) Include a die cut shape (can be a chippy)
5) Include inking of edges
6) Include layering (even just a couple of layers)

You could win this....ooooh, just think of the goodies you could buy!!!

THIS CHALLENGE RUNS FROM 7PM FRIDAY TO 11PM SATURDAY, please load your entries HERE

Here is my grungy example. Now I have never hidden the fact that I would love to recruit Tim Holtz to be my BFF, together we would sit, shoot the breeze and craft for hours caffeinated on Starbucks. We would ponder new ideas for epic new Idea-ology products.  When Tim is busy doing promotions and demonstrations I would hang with Mario helping with marketing etc. As you can see I have given this all some very good thought, it just needs to come into fruition now, the plan is set. So in honor of our pending friendship I dedicate this Tim Holtz inspired card to none other than Tim himself. Tim if by some remote chance you end up reading this I swear I am not a stalker just possibly your BIGGEST fan.

Now I am not expecting anyone to head in the grunge direction (although *high five* if you do). You decide your color scheme and theme, go black, go pink, go whatever you choose just as long as you include all the techniques listed above.

Looking forward to seeing your projects!!

Flying Unicorn WCYDW - Perfect Pearls Emboss Technique

I am here today to share with you a Perfect Pearls Emboss Technique, this technique is truly gorgeous and always seems to turn out so sparkly and beautiful.

Products Required

VersaMark
Perfect Pearls Dusting Brush (or any soft brush)
A stamp (any stamp with depth and a nice image will do)
Die Cut Item - Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves

Step 1 - Die cut in thick card your shape, then paint with either your black acrylic paint or black gesso, both seem to work just as well.

Step 2 - You will need to Versamark your shape and emboss with Black UTEE three times. Yep, 3 times, you need a nice thick coating. By three times I mean heat emboss three individual times, emboss and heat, emboss and heat, emboss and heat.

Step 3 - Versamark your shape, in order for Perfect Pearls to stick. Take your Perfect Pearls and soft brush and lightly randomly brush your colors on, a choice of three colors seems to work the best. How pretty is it already looking??

Step 4 - Ink up your stamp with gold ink, very important not to miss this step as you will need to work fast for step 5.

Step 5 - Using your heat gun once again melt the UTEE on your shape, once you see it starting to become liquid immediately pick up your stamp and stamp into your shape. Gently remove stamp, look what you now have!!!

Now that you are complete think of all the possibilities from jewelery making through to card making.

Wishing all a very happy and creative day.

Finnabair Art Journal Cover - Flying Unicorn

Words cannot express how excited I was to find out there was an art journal in January's kit by Flying Unicorn, and not just any art journal, Finnabairs journal (LOVE!). Now I had every intention of filling the book first and decorating my cover last, ahhhhh who was I kidding, I could not wait to start the cover.

Update to post, wow since sharing this project I have had an amazingly huge amount of positive feedback (thank you all so much!!). A lot of people have asked, how did you do this? I am about to share that with you all.

I started off by covering my cover with a coat of gesso and allowing to dry. I then took a whole bunch of random stuff and glued it to my cover, I used Glossy Accent's to glue my stuff down, yes an expensive choice but it works. As you can see I have used heaps of different types of objects, lace, metal, chipboard, flowers, resin pieces, fimo set pieces and die cut card. Really anything will work here, buttons, rings pulls from cans, etc. Take a look at what you have laying around.

Once everything is glued down and dry, you then apply a decent coat of white gesso. Ensure your brush gets into all those small places, everything must be coated.

I would recommend leaving overnight to dry, lesson learnt I started applying my paint too early and started to get messy. Once your gesso is 100% dry you then can start applying your paint. I gave the entire cover a coat of Halo Blue Gold Lumiere Paint and then randomly dabbed on Metallic Rust and Pearlescent Blue Lumiere Paints. The glimmering gold addition came from my Antique Gold Rub'n Buf. I LOVE this stuff, one little tube can go such a long way. Apply a little (and I do mean little) bit to your finger and start applying to raised areas.

The end result is rather spectacular, yes even if I do say so myself. I am going to go out on a limb here and say if you want to give this project a go that it is almost impossible to stuff up. You can see above what I started with, a whole bunch of random bits and bobs.

12 Tags of 2014 - Tim Holtz (January)

Hi Everyone,

Wow it is January 2014 already and that for me means the lovely Tim Holtz is back to start a fresh new collection of brilliant ideas and tags for 2014 entitled '12 Tags of 2014'. This time last year I was 8 months pregnant and completed January 2013 tag with gusto and then immediately created 10 more tags. February rolled around and I managed to complete the fabulous tag for that month too. And then new life arrived to the family and all my crafting was put on hold for a little while. Now that I am fully adjusted to life as a Mum I am now managing to juggle home life and craft life. So in saying that I am vowing to complete the 2014 tags along with Tim and everyone else who is joining in.

In order to make the January tag I had to think a little outside of the box as I did not have the pocket watch die or the metal foil. So instead I cut the pocket watch out on my Circut and then used aluminum foil which worked out not too bad really.
Without further adieu here is my tag for January.....

And ironically the other day I created a steampunk inspired card which looks awfully similar to this tag so I thought I would just display it here also.

Many thanks for stopping by, I wish you all a happy and creative day.
