A Mixed Media Gift for Sheridan

When I was in London last month I promised my good friend Sheridan that I would make her a canvas. I said when my husband Lyndsay returned back to London for work that he would hand carry it over to her and personally hand deliver it. It is down to the wire, the paint has only just dried, it is about to get bubble packed and head off in Emirates business class tomorrow morning. I so hope Sheridan likes it, whilst in London randomly Sheridan said to me 'I love bugs!!!', I figure this canvas will be going to a good home.

Sheridan is an amazingly crafty friend, when I say crafty I do not mean in the sneaky kind of way, I mean in the talented awe inspiring kind of way. We became good friends some 10 years ago when we were both living in Mumbai at the same time. Sheridan taught me how to mosaic and also taught me the art of 'grouping' interior design style. Even though a long time had passed since we had seen each other it was so lovely to see her in London again and just went to show true friendship always stays strong even when distance is involved.

I would like to thank Rach0113 for your AWESOME steampunk dragonfly video on YouTube which is the inspiration behind this canvas (and two other very similar canvas's I have made fairly recently and shown here on my blog). Rach0113 your tutorials are fabulous, informative and easy to follow. If anyone would like to see some of her amazing work please be sure to check out her brilliant blog here.

Are you reading this Sheridan? if so please note the placement of the dragon fly's, they are all traveling in different directions, I consider this good dragonfly placement ;-). Your canvas will be delivered shortly.

Wishing you all a fabulous and creative week.

Every year in the month of November, Flying Unicorn sponsors "Flying Unicorn Gives Back." This year, we've chosen a nationally recognized charity, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

For each project that is uploaded to our forum gallery, Flying Unicorn donates $1.00 to a maximum of $1,000 and. we've always reached our goal. With your help this year we will again! Best Friends' mission of No More Homeless Pets tries to place dogs and cats who are considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since its inception, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year. There has been much progress, but there is still much more to do. Best Friends made national headlines with
their intensive efforts in rescuing so many animals in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

Leaky Shed Studios - Flying Unicorn

This month in my creative team kit for Flying Unicorn I had the absolute pleasure of finding a little package of wonderful chippies from Leaky Shed Studios. The moment I laid eyes on the Steampunk Cameo I knew she belonged on a tag, and that she needed to be shown in all her steampunk glory. I inked the chipboard piece with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then used a fabulous new product in the Flying Unicorn Store called Rusting Powder by Twiddleybitz. It is a little hard to make out in the photo but the chipboard upon close inspection looks like a rusted bit of metal.

Many thanks for looking, wishing you all a fabulous and creative weekend.

Creative Chemistry 102 - Day Five

Hi Everyone,

I hopped off a plane from London less than 24 hours ago and the first thing I wanted to do was get back into my craft room and start creating.

I have not been home for Day 1 - 4 of Creative Chemistry however I am here for Day 5 (and hope to catch up very quickly on Day 1 - 4).

The below tag was created using the distress rust technique, loved rusting up my little bird cage.  Thank you Tim, you never EVER cease to inspire me.

Thanks for looking everyone, wishing you a fabulous weekend.

Showcasing - 100% by Friday 13th (Flying Unicorn)

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you today to share something different, something new, something you may have never seen before (ooooh prepare to be amazed). This collection is calling 100% and it is produced by a Polish company called Friday 13th. I love this collection as the paper contains a few different styles, however they all just blend and work together so seamlessly.

I have created two different projects, the first being a covered box. My intention with both projects was to add minimal other embellishments. The only few minor additions to this box were buttons, string, burlap and Flying Unicorn Adornment leaves

As I had cut both levels of the flower with a die, I had the other half of the flower left. I put this card together with all the leftovers. Additions to this card were lace, chain, pins, eyelet and a Flying Unicorn Adornment Key.

Please feel free to stop by the What's New in the Flying Unicorn Store forum thread if you would like to ask any questions regarding either of these two projects.

Have a wonderful and creative week!

50 Shades of Summer - Flying Unicorn

Flying Unicorn's September Kit of the Month :
The end of summer is not a farewell, but an embrace of memories that will live on. That hot sun as you played in the water, and those steamy nights where you may have sipped wine in the yard, enjoying the smell of the bbq as you entertained friends and family . Lazy days by the pool and family vacation time. Sleeping in, as the yellow sun played in the skies of blue to late nights where only the shinning stars above were the light source. From the boldest blues and reds to the muted greens and purples it was 50 Shades of Summer.
Flying Unicorn proudly presents September's Kit of the Month with an ensemble from Melissa Francis Classic Elegance Collection,True Romance from Kaisercraft and 13@rts Faces of Spring.

Not only are we unique in the fact that scrapbooking should be a passion and not an obligation that we have no sign ups but it is first come first serve - Our kits have an Off the Page Project and this month is no different we have included the Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock for your creative pleasure.
