Botanical Tea Matchbox Alteration - Flying Unicorn

Flying Unicorn is running a matchbox alteration challenge from 14th March - 14th April, I am here to share with you today my creative team inspiration project.

It is such a delight to create something so small and cute (note this is a large matchbox, not your usual itty bitty ones). I have used the Botanical Tea range by Graphic 45 to transform my matchbox.

Shoe Makeover - Flying Unicorn

So what do you do when you see a pair of fairly ugly $5 shoes on a clearance rack in Target? Of course you buy them, paint them and then embellish them with Flying Unicorn Adornments. I was not entirely sure this project would work, and although I have sealed these shoes with gloss Mod Podge I will still cross my fingers they hold up when they make their street debut.

Turning a fairly boring $5 pair of shoes into.....

Ooooh la la!!! A completely unique pair of beautiful shoes....

Many thanks for looking, wishing you a happy and creative day.

Steampunk Style - Flying Unicorn

Today I would like to share you with 3 different steampunk style projects. Now we all know I love myself some grungy steampunk, I just love it, I find it fascinating and beautiful. I am a huge fan of using metal in my projects and with steampunk I don't think there is such a thing as overdoing your metal embellishments.

Look at this AMAZING chipboard dress form from Creative Embellishments, how cool is it? I took the dress form and backed it with Prima canvas and then embellished with various metal pieces including WONDERFUL adornments from Flying Unicorn.

Did anyone see the fabulous tutorial last month from Finnabair on YouTube? I so loved watching the tutorial and promptly decided  I HAD to make the project myself too. Here is my take Finnabair's horse tutorial. I used a combination of both Silks and Lumiere paints. My metal embellishments are a combination of Flying Unicorn Adornments and old watch parts from my stash.

Last but certainly not least here is another tag, this like the one above has been created using a steampunk chipboard piece from Creative Embellishments.

Thanks for joining me on this little steampunk journey.

Have a beautiful and creative day!!

Graphic 45 Design Team 2014 Audition

Well my crafty friends it is that time of year again, Graphic 45 is having another most exciting Design Team Call. For those of you who follow my blog regularly you will already know how much I completely LOVE Graphic 45 papers and products. For the first round of auditions we are to post a minium of 6 projects.

Without further ado lets begin....

Typography!!! A range I immediately fell in love with. This layout took a considerable amount of time, see the six flowers? they are all hand folded using 8 individual circles. I was determined to make these flowers and wow did these papers work brilliantly for them. I have used many different elements here but I feel it works without looking too chaotic.
Featured Graphic 45 Blog 10th December 2013

Here is another Typography layout. For this project I have used five layers of paper, not full sheets mind you, I am rather careful with my paper wastage. I have further embellished this page with Graphic 45 staples, cut outs and lace. Small hints of Antique Gold Rub'n Buff can also be seen.

I am constantly pinning vintage photos on Pinterest, I cannot seem to help myself, I do not know why I do it, or what I will ever do with all the images. However!!! when the Sweet Sentiments paper was released I knew I would have a photo or two to match. I love the soft pastel colors in this range, only enhanced further by a touch of lace and my favorite color ink, Vintage Photo.

The beautiful elegant lady pictured here is my Great Great Auntie, isn't she just fabulous? look at that amazing feather she is holding. As soon as the Ladies Diary range was released I knew immediately that this photo would have a new home. Ladies Diary is stunning and complements this photo perfectly.

I LOVE Steampunk, truly love it. Sadly I only ever got my hands on one Steampunk Debutante 12 x 12 pad, so when Steampunk Spells was released I purchased two immediately as well as all the additional extras (yes ALL of them). This layout just kept evolving, I kept adding and adding, even with such a busy layout already I STILL think I could get away with adding a few extra bits and bobs.

This is one of my favorite layouts using Steampunk Debutante. The project was created using watch parts, metal embellishments, feathers, lace and fussy cut elements. I found the photo on Pinterest and the beautiful steampunk model was just absolutely perfect for my most FAVORITE Graphic 45 collection.

Words cannot express how much I loved putting this little treasure book together. This old book was sitting lonely on a dusty shelf in a second hand book store. I gave it some much needed love by decorating with a huge amount of different elements from the Steampunk Spells range. The amount of interest and positive comments I have had over this project has been completely overwhelming.

373 Repins (and counting!!)

I made this little case for my daughter Lily, it was such a JOY to create using the vibrant Bohemian Bazaar collection of papers. I made this for Lily when she was a mere 6 months old, this now sits proudly on her shelf in her bedroom (way too pretty to actually use!!).

It is no secret that I love bottles, all kind of bottles. This was the very first bottle I decided to decorate and the fact I used some of my much coveted Steampunk Debutante paper made it obvious I meant bottle business. The Steampunk Debutante range did this bottle justice, I am so happy with the result.

Here is another bottle, this time using the Bohemian Bazaar collection.

Here is a little key box I created using the French Country range. The range is just perfect for homely projects like this one. I spent a lot of time on this one, every smidge of space has been covered with French Country. Rather than hang keys inside, I decided to hang two little pocket watches, as you do.

Ahhh yes I also love a shadow box or two (or 10), shadow boxes are one of my favorite items to create. The Birdsong range worked brilliantly for this shadow box which includes fussy cut elements and hand folded fans. Rather tricky to capture the full beauty of this project, the reflective glass in the box was a little tricky photography wise.

And last but certainly not least here is a balsa wood box hand bag which has also been covered with Birdsong. The oriental shape of this bag combined with the Birdsong paper was a marriage made in heaven. They just worked so perfectly together.

Graphic 45 Monthly Challenge Winner

Thank you Graphic 45 for the opportunity to apply to be a part of your amazing team, best of luck to everyone who is taking part in the design team call.

Printers Tray Project - Flying Unicorn

I am here with you today to share a little project which was super exciting to put together. I have been wanting to create a printers tray project for YEARS, however I had always felt a little intimidated. I mean, what do you put in all those little boxes? did I have enough stuff? where do the ideas come from? what do I do with it when it is finished?

I started off by lining my printers tray with a selection of different Prima papers. Tim Holtz Tissue Tape was used to edge every single compartment of this tray. Thanks to the girls on the Flying Unicorn Creative team for the hot tip on using Mod Podge to keep the tissue tape secure (I was getting a little frustrated).  The most fun part for me was filling all the little compartments, surprisingly I found this rather easy, I just kept picking up and placing and it all just seemed to work (hurrah!!! *self high five*). When it was complete I strung a wire along the back in order to hang the tray on the wall for display.

Ok yes it is a little hard to take it all in isn't it? Let's take a closer look.......

Who is now inspired to create a printers tray? C'mon you can do it too!!

Wishing you all a brilliant and creative day.
